Deep Tissue Massage
What is Deep Tissue Massage?
Working at a deeper level than Swedish massage, Deep tissue manipulates the soft tissue by using slow and deep movements with consistent pressure, targeting the layers of muscle and connective tissue.
It is highly beneficial if you work in a physical job, do sports or suffer with aching muscle.
What are the benefits?
This type of massage is usually performed to address localised pain. It can improve tightness and reduced mobility caused by tight muscles or adhesions. It can encourage healing within the tissue and improve circulation, blood flow, reduce blood pressure and heart rate and relieve tension and stress.
It is important to note that Deep Tissue Massage is a COMPLEMTARY therapy, and works alongside conventional medicine. It should never be seen as an alternative TO conventional medicine. If you have any health concerns, your first call must be to a medical professional.
Is Deep Tissue Massage suitable for everyone?
If you have history of blood clots, cancer, bleeding disorders, or are receiving cancer treatments and other certain medication, then sadly this treatment will not be suitable. (this list is not exhaustive)
Deep Tissue Massage can also range from uncomfortable to quite painful, so keep this in mind if you have a low pain threshold, although as a therapist, I will always work within your parameters, sometimes the nature of the treatment means discomfort free is not possible.
What should I wear?
Your comfort is priority, so if you decide you would like to remain as clothed as possible, make sure you will be comfortable laying and potentially stretching/twisting in your clothing. The area to be treated WILL need to be exposed, so keep this in mind.
Are there any side effects?
As with other therapies, you may suffer from headache, tiredness, nausea, light-headedness, increased thirst, increased urination, tenderness particularly in the area of focus. These usually fade within 24 hours. You will be given an after-care sheet to take home.
