What is Reflexology?

If you have never had a Reflexology treatment done, you would be forgiven in thinking it's a simple foot massage.  In actual fact it is much, much more! It can also be carried out on the hand or even an ear.  

 

At the very least, Reflexology is highly relaxing. Quite possibly the MOST relaxing treatment I have ever received. 

The therapist works on the feet (or hands) using intricately small movements with varying depths of pressure which is led by the client.  It does NOT tickle.  Each movement is done purposefully to work on a corresponding body part, body system or organ.  The body is worked on as a whole with further attention given to areas of concern and works to stimulate or relax.

 

What are the benefits?

Aside from being incredibly relaxing, Reflexology is a great stress buster! It is believed that as a treatment, Reflexology can lower your heart rate, blood pressure, anxiety levels, aid digestion, improve circulation, improve skin tone, improve sleep, reduce headaches and tension and more.

It is important to note that Reflexology is a COMPLEMTARY therapy, and works alongside conventional medicine.  It should never be seen as an alternative TO conventional medicine.  If you have any health concerns, your first call must be to a medical professional.

 

Can anyone have a Reflexology treatment?

Because it is non-evasive, as a treatment it can be offered to most people! There may be certain situations where it is not suitable, for example (not limited to); skin conditions, broken or fractured bones, broken skin, thrombosis or embolism 

 

What should I wear?

If you prefer to remain fully clothed throughout your treatment, then I recommend trousers with a loose ankle, but mainly anything you will be comfortable in.

 

Are there any side effects?

You MAY suffer with light-headedness, nausea, extreme emotional responses, headache, increased urination, increased thirst and tiredness.  These mostly fade within 24 hours.  You will be given an after-care information sheet to take home.
